The European Parliament has ratified the EU-Georgia Association Agreement
The European Parliament gave its consent to ratification of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement, on the 18th of December, in Strasbourg. 490 MEPs voted in favour for the Agreement.
The President of Georgia, Mr Giorgi Margvelashvili, the Foreign Minister, Ms Tamar Beruchashvili, Chair of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee, Mr Viktor Dolidze andthe Chair of the Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, Mr Tedo Japaridze and the Georgian Ambassador to the European Union, Ms Natalia Sabanadze attended the event.
The Association Agreement has so far been ratified by eleven EU-member states: Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Slovakia, Estonia, Hungary, Sweden, and Denmark;
Prior to ratification, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on Georgia indicating that the European Parliament supports steps that Georgia has taken towards the settlement of relations with Russia and calls upon Russia to respect Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to withdraw its recognition of the Abkhazian and Tskhinvali regions.
